Keynote Speech at SwissCham Singapore event on Innovation

On 17 March 2025, the Science & Technology Sub-Committee of SwissCham Singapore invited innovation experts to jointly explore the balancing act of large corporates seeking to innovate with entrepreneurial agility. At the event titled 'Driving Innovation Through Intrapreneurship and Spin-Offs', 40+ industry leaders and scientists came together to share.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Matthias A. Tietz from the St.Gallen Institute of Management in Asia, who provided detailed perspectives on navigating innovation challenges from a wealth of data spanning 20.000 responses from over 140 companies across the globe. Prof. Tietz's thought-provoking ideas and clear structure of six innovation pain points set the tone for the evening, offering a framework and actionable strategies for fostering entrepreneurial agility within corporate structures.

The event also featured the practical venture-building insights from HSG Alumnus Hanno Stegmann (Managing Director & Partner at BCG X). His practical experience complemented the research insights and the subsequent joint Q&A session with Prof. Tietz served to contextualize many innovation hacks within the Singaporean and wider ASEAN context.

What where some key take aways from the discussion? To succeed in innovation, companies must adapt not only their offerings but also their innovation models — empowering teams to act with start-up like agility while staying aligned with corporate goals and within the empowering psychological safety net provided by senior management.
