7th Private Equity Research Symposium

The St.Gallen Institute of Management in Asia (SGI), in collaboration with its long-standing partners from the Private Equity Research Consortium and the Institute for Private Capital (IPC) at the University of North Carolina, co-hosted the 7th Annual Private Equity Research Symposium in Singapore. The event once again attracted close to 100 participants. Over the years, the symposium has grown into one of the largest private equity-oriented conferences in Asia.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkötter served as the local conference organizer and welcomed a diverse audience of practitioners, industry experts, and academics. The symposium provided a robust platform for knowledge exchange, in-depth discussions, and meaningful networking within the private equity community.

Four keynote presentations took place during the symposium: Professor Gregory Brown from the University of North Carolina kicked off the symposium with a presentation examining historical risk-adjusted performance of private funds across asset classes and geographies. David Robison from Duke University focused his presentation on Business Development Companies to examine how and why non-bank lending has grown over the past decades. Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkötter of the SGI explored how examine the determinants of pricing in buyout transaction and their implication for deal return and value creation. Prof. Dr. Stefan Weik from the University of St.Gallen discussed Jenson LBO’s and showed how LBOs in ‘Jensen situations’ consistently outperformed in recent times.

The symposium also hosted two panel discussions led by distinguished experts in practice. The discussion on Current Opportunities in Private Equity and Venture Capital was led by Professor Gregory Brown with Carol Rodrigues (Partners Group), Sunil Mishra (Adams Street Partners) and Brian Toh (Vertex Holdings) as panellists. The second discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkötter on “The Future of Private Markets”, with Su Ling Chee (GIC), Alexander Forster (Carlyle AlpInvest) and Kenrick Guo (Temasek) as panellists.
