With close to 100 attendees a record number of participants joined us for this year’s symposium. Over the last years we have been able to successfully develop the symposium to one of the largest academic-focused Private Equity conferences in Asia. Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkötter served as the local organizer of the conference and welcomed practitioners, experts and academics from the field of private equity for a wide range of input, discussion, and networking opportunities
Four keynote presentations took place during the symposium. Professor Tim Jenkinson from the University of Oxford, one of the leading authorities on private equity, kicked off the symposium with a presentation of his recent research addressing the pressing question of fee structures in the PE industry. This was followed by Professor Gregory Brown from the University of North Carolina who shared his research insights on how growth in the private fund industry impacted performance subsequently. After a networking break, Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkötter from the University of St.Gallen and Managing Director of the SGI explored how increasing levels of trade distortions relate to changing investment patterns of investors into private equity funds. Professor Yao TianHao from Singapore Management University discussed in his presentation ESG Incidents and Fundraising in Private Equity.
The symposium also hosted two panel discussions led by distinguished experts in practice. The discussion on AI in Private Equity was led by Javad Movsoumov from UBS, featuring Usman Akhtar (Bain & Company), Kenrick Guo (Temasek) and Paul Poh (Hg Capital) as panellists. The second discussion was moderated by Professor Gregory Brown on “The State of Private Markets Investing”, with Jayne Bok (Willis Tower Watson), Kevin Lu (Partners Group) and Grace Qiu (GIC) as panellists.
