Dialogue with Minister Dr. Tan See Leng (Minister for Manpower, Singapore)

As part of his visit to the 53rd St.Gallen Symposium, Singapore’s Minister of Manpower, Dr. Tan See Leng, met with students from the University of St. Gallen and Singaporean students (from the National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University) currently on exchange at the University of  St. Gallen.

Moderated by Prof. Dr. Gralf Sieghold, the session served as a unique opportunity for students to engage with the minister on topics ranging from the retention of aspiring local talent amidst heightened globalisation, the importance of “not settling” and following your aspirations! The session was extremely valuable for students to hear from one of Singapore’s senior political leaders , who also came from a background of entrepreneurship and business development in the private sector, which many in the audience related to.

At the larger St.Gallen symposium, themed “Confronting Scarcity”, Dr. Tan participated in a plenary session, “Future-Proofing Industry: How to Confront Demographic Change?”. He shared how Singapore was taking active steps to make sure the entire workforce is ready for automation and artificial intelligence, and that those who are prepared for AI will displace those who are not. Dr. Tan reinforced Singapore's efforts to ensure a level playing field for all people, as people are the country's only resource.
