This course provides the chance to learn first-hand about the business environment in Vietnam and the country itself in a methodical and insightful way. It seeks to introduce the students to Vietnam’s business environment and exposes students to the socio-cultural, political and economic context to better understand the management of businesses in Vietnam.
Vietnam has touted the rising economic power in maritime ASEAN with high GDP growth rates and consistently ranked among fastest growing countries in the world. It has shown robust growth in recent years as a rapidly developing economy with growth in entrepreneurial start-ups and manufacturing base for MNCs. Traditionally agrarian economy, today manufacturing, Information Technology and high-tech industries form a large and fast-growing part of its economy. Vietnam’s businesses increasingly compete on the regional stage and face challenges from regional and global knowledge-drive and innovation-powered economies.
With help of case studies, guest speakers and virtual engagements to trisector organisations in Vietnam, students will be familiarized with businesses in Vietnam and how managers find ways to overcome challenges and take advantage of opportunities in Vietnam. On a broader horizon, the course will take a closer look at Vietnam’s competitiveness and help students to gain regional/ASEAN awareness by putting Vietnam in the broader context of the ASEAN economic community. Being Singapore’s close neighbour, the course will also discuss the many ties between Vietnam and Singapore e.g. strong trade and business relations.
