During his visit to the 48th St.Gallen Symposium on 4 May 2018, Lawrence Wong, the Singaporean Minister for National Development, took the chance to meet up with students from Singapore Management University and National University of Singapore on exchange in St. Gallen, and with students from the University of St. Gallen who participated in the Asia Term, the flagship exchange program on the bachelor level. In their open discussion, the minister and the students covered a diverse set of topics, ranging from life changing personal experiences during their studies, the value of cultural exchange, to the question of the relevance of paper qualifications. Minister Wong elaborated further on the latter topic at the 48th St.Gallen Symposium during the panel discussion “Next generation workforce – a readiness analysis” Symposium where he spoke together with Alain Dehaze, the CEO of the largest temp staffing firm Adecco Group, and Dileep George, co-founder of the artificial intelligence developer Vicarious, Inc. He also spoke about Singapore’s efforts to train adult workers through the SkillsFuture programme in preparing for a workforce of the future.
