Visit of Minister for Education, Mr. Ong Ye Kung to the University of St.Gallen As part of his visit to the 47th St.Gallen Symposium on 4 May 2017, Singapore’s Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) Mr. Ong Ye Kung met with students from the University of St.Gallen and Singapore Management University on exchange in St.Gallen. Asked about their experiences studying abroad, the students shared their personal highlights of studying and living in Singapore and Switzerland respectively. The students also reflected on the value of intercultural understanding and team work as well as on different career paths that Singaporean and Swiss students take after their undergraduate studies. In addition, Minister Ong learnt more about the activities of the University of St.Gallen in Singapore. During the 47th St.Gallen Symposium, Minister Ong spoke in a panel on politics and education in the age of disruption which also featured Swiss Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann and Denmark's Minister for Foreign Affairs Anders Samuelsen. Minister Ong emphasized the importance of aligning the education system with the structure of the economy, so that people would continue to be armed with the required skills to find jobs in the current age of disruption. In this respect, Singapore could learn from countries such as Switzerland and Germany.
