Asia Term Team Building Event On 26 August 2016, 48 students from SMU and HSG participated in a team building event at BreakOut Games, where many of them tried the ‘escape room’ experience for the first time. The students were divided into teams of eight, and had one hour to find their way out of a locked room by paying attention to clues within the room and solving various puzzles, like detectives solving a mystery. This team-building experience demonstrated to the students the importance of teamwork in a cross-cultural setting, while challenging their ability to think out of the box in finding solutions. After testing their problem-solving skills in the escape room, the students had a delicious BBQ at East Coast Park, where they had the opportunity to continue their conversations in a more relaxed setting. Over local food, HSG and SMU students could make new friends while discovering common interests. They had the opportunity to learn more about each other’s cultures and share insights with each other about their personal experiences and student lives. It was a fun, educational and enriching day for them.
