6th HSG Alumni Asia Weekend in Singapore HSG Alumni from all over Asia were invited to come together in the vibrant city state of Singapore early September for the 6th HSG Alumni Asia Weekend. The representatives in Singapore were excited to welcome Alumni from most Asian countries such as Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, India, but also from Hungary, Germany and of course Switzerland. The participants were invited to join diverse activities over the weekend, starting with a welcome reception on Friday evening with a panoramic view over Singapore´s breath-taking skyline. Highlights of this evening included the welcome speech of Alexander Melchers, representative of the Singapore HSG Alumni Club and an inspiring address about Networking of Emilija Georgieva, Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in Singapore. On Saturday morning, the HSG Alumni were welcomed at the HSG Institute in Singapore which is located in the buzzing old parts of Singapore’s China town. Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkoetter, Managing Director of the St.Gallen Institute of Management in Asia and Dr. Christine Scheef, GM hosted a brunch offering the chance to try Malay, Chinese and Indian food followed by a guided tour through the culturally diverse China Town and a visit to the City Gallery – a miniature model of the whole island of Singapore. From there, the Alumni Group moved to the beautiful AXA Campus – residing in an old black and white house. Dr. Breh Swan Gin, Chairman of the Economic Development Board Singapore, and also a Member of the St.Gallen University’s Advisory Board, gave an inspiring summary of about the repositioning of Singapore in an increasingly globalized and competitive world. The speech was followed by a lively Q&A session with Dr. Beh and moderated by Dr. Gralf Sieghold, pro-bono Chairman of the St. Gallen Institute of Management in Asia, and HSG Alumnus himself. The HSG Alumni then enjoyed the sunset over Singapore on top of the National Gallery with an amazing view over the skyline of Marina Bay Sands and overlooking the build-up of the Formula 1-track, which runs right through the center of Singapore. Upon sunset the group gathered for a delicious Chinese dinner in the new National Gallery. The evening was enriched with several speeches around the current state of the University and the Alumni organisation most notably by the President of the St. Gallen Alumni, Dr. Urs Landolf as well as by Frau Yvonne Suter, Member of the Board of Governors of the University of St Gallen. The HSG Asia Alumni Weekend concluded with a Sunday family-brunch in a casual atmosphere in the tropical Swiss Club. The HSG Alumni Asia weekend would not have been possible without the support of several sponsors.
