13th St.Gallen Public Lecture in Singapore The 13th edition of the St.Gallen Public Lecture took place on 12 March 2018 in Singapore. Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger, President of the University of St.Gallen (HSG), spoke about the topic of "The Future of Education - Educating Business Leaders in a Fast-Changing Environment". The lecture was organized by the St.Gallen Institute of Management in Asia and the Alumni of the University of St.Gallen in Singapore and hosted by Singapore Management University (SMU). Addressing a diverse audience of alumni, corporate and academic guests, Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger sketched the fundamental changes arising from digitization and other current trends and their impact on the traditional value chain of universities as creators and providers of knowledge. At the same time, he pointed out that society was facing corresponding challenges, creating both an opportunity and a necessity for universities as institutions. Referring to the HSG's long-term vision as a place for exchange between people, Prof Bieger cited the example of its new interactive "Learning Centre", which constituted a tangible response to its strategic challenges. The lecture concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Lydia Lim, Head of Training and Talent Development at The Straits Times. Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger also addressed questions by the audience and highlighted the successful partnership that HSG and Singapore Management University had established over more than a decade.
